The Engineering Society of Hong Kong was founded in 1947 with the aim of bringing together engineers of different Disciplines for their common good. The Society flourished and as a result the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (the HKIE), was incorporated under the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Ordinance, Chapter 1105 of the Laws of Hong Kong in 1975. The HKIE is the only statutory professional engineering body in Hong Kong, currently with over 35,000 members, of which around 16,000 are Corporate Members.

Committed to upholding the quality of membership, the Institution sets standards for the training and admission of engineers of 21 Engineering Disciplines. It also has strict rules governing its members’ conduct and is dedicated to raising the ethical standard of professional engineers in Hong Kong. As a learned society, the 19 Divisions under the Institution regularly organise activities to keep members abreast of the latest engineering developments and also provide opportunities for Continuing Professional Development.

The HKIE prides ourselves on being a proactive social citizen by not only nominating members to serve on various external boards and committees of government departments and higher education institutions, but also providing timely and constructive comments and professional advice on the government’s consultation papers. In addition, the profession has one seat representing the Engineering Functional Constituency in the Legislative Council through which views of the profession can be expressed to the Government.

The HKIE has established close relationship with engineering institutions throughout the world and has signed agreements for reciprocal recognition of professional qualifications and agreements of co-operation with engineering authorities and other organisations worldwide.

Since its establishment in 1976, the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (KoCham) has worked closely and collaboratively with the governments of South Korea and Hong Kong SAR, as well as the Global Chambers in Hong Kong to support member companies by providing various business information and network opportunities. The KoCham will also work closely with their 250 members from various industry segments to develop an open networking platform that will allow sharing of useful information and activities to grow businesses.

The Office of the Board of Investment is a government agency under the Office of the Prime Minister. Its core roles and responsibilities are to promote valuable investment, both investment into Thailand and Thai overseas investment.

          To promote valuable investment, both investment in Thailand and Thai overseas investment to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness, to overcome the “Middle Income Trap” and to achieve sustainable growth in accordance with the sufficiency economy philosophy.

Investment Promotion Policies

1. Promote investment that helps enhance national competitiveness by encouraging R&D, innovation, value creation in the agricultural, industrial and services sectors, SMEs, fair competition, and reduce social and economic disparity.
2. Promote activities that are environment-friendly, save energy or use alternative energy to drive balanced and sustainable growth.
3. Promote clusters to create investment concentration in accordance with regional potential and to strengthen value chains.
4. Promote investment in border provinces in Southern Thailand to help develop the local economy, which will support efforts to enhance security in the area.
5. Promote special economic zones, especially in border areas, both inside and outside industrial estates, to create economic connectivity with neighboring countries and to prepare for entry into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
6. Promote Thai overseas investment to enhance the competitiveness of Thai businesses and Thailand’s role in the global economy

Incentives to Promote Investment 

Tax incentives

• Exemption of corporate income tax for up to 13 years (According to activity & conditions).
• 50 percent reduction in corporate income tax for 5 years (only in special investment promotion zones).
• Exemption of import duties on machinery.
• Exemption of import duties on raw or essential materials used in production for export.
• Exemption of import duties on raw or essential materials used in research and development purposes

Non-tax incentives

• 100% foreign ownership (except activities under List One annexed to the Foreign Business Act B.E 2542 (1999) or stated in other laws).
• Permit to own land.
• Permit to bring in skilled workers and experts to work into the Kingdom.

BOI Services

• Provide advice and information on investment opportunities and rules & regulations on BOI investment promotion.
• Link investors with government agencies & private sector to facilitate business operation such as company establishment and work permit application process.
• Provide support on industrial linkage and sourcing of local suppliers.
• Provides support on the identification of potential investors.
• Provide counsel on overseas investment and provide training courses on overseas investment for Thai investors.
• Provide services in identifying and recognition of foreign specialists or researchers in science and technology by BOI Strategic Talent Center (STC).

One Stop Services Center

Provide one stop service for visa and work permit, and investment in IBC and the investment in Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The main aim of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is to promote and increase bilateral relationships between Spain and Hong Kong, offering a wide range of services to support companies in both markets.

The Investment Promotion and Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic is a government agency promoting foreign investments and assisting international companies in finding business opportunities in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The primary objectives of the State Agency are to attract and promote investment inflow to the national economy, to assist existing and potential exporters in promoting their products to overseas markets, as well as to develop mechanisms for public-private partnership.
